1. Harder To Breathe
|
What happens when you mix a little soul into an alternative rock group? You get Maroon5's new release Songs About Jane. Over the years not only has Maroon5 changed their name from Kara's Flowers, but also they have altered their sound from its original punk-pop. The band headed in a fresh musical direction with their unique blend of rock, R and B and soul. At times Maroon5 new funky fresh style sounds as if it Jamiroquai had an influence in the album. This distinctive combination of melodies is most predominately heard in "This Love," as well as "Sunday Morning," "Secret," and "Not Coming Home". The opening cut "Harder to Breath" features an attention getting sound that has an almost Lenny Kravitz vibe to it. But by track four "She will be loved," fans begin to see lead singer Adam Levine's softer side in this romantic ballad. Although the album has a very urban, R&B style, live drum takes with more instrumentals make Songs About Jane the complete musical package. It won't take much effort to dig this album. So who is Jane anyway? Well the album's twelve tracks portray different aspects of a relationship between two lovers that could really define any relationship. According to piano player Jesse Carmichael, "Jane can be whoever you want her to be. She's flexible." Still many fans claim that she is the band's muse, but she also just happens to be Adam's ex-girlfriend. After listening to the album there comes a point when you want to say, "Adam just get over this girl. Isn't there anything else worth writing a song about?" But it has to be said that this band has come a long way and has really cleaned up their sound. The lyrics on this album are more original than their last release as Kara's Flowers, "The Fourth World". Hopefully as they continue to strengthen as a group they will even further expand their lyrics. One thing that can't be denied is these boys have a stage presence that is nearly impossible to match. Their energy radiates from the stage, making listeners instant fans. Do not pass up the opportunity to see them live now because this bands popularity is sure to spread like wildfire. Maroon5 is currently touring with the Jeep World Tour. The tour also features Train, Sheryl Crow, O.A.R., Ziggy Marley, Five for Fighting and Howie Day. Maroon5 has the potential of going multi-platinum. Hopefully their new record label Octone Records can carry them all the way to the top. Being the first band to sign with the label, Octone Records is behind them all they way. With the right direction, the unique musical style of Maroon5 is going to sweep the nation. |
