The VMAs as told by Dani and Ro

The VMA’s, its a yearly tradition put on by everyone's favorite cable channel, MTV. With each year of the VMA’s, there is always something to look forward to. This years event was hosted by funny man (and yes, he really is funny)! Jimmy Fallon. In his hilarious opening monologue poking fun of all the top nominees, the crowd and viewers at home were rolling in their seats. A few of his best impressions included Enrique Iglesias, Nelly, and the ever so annoying Avril Lavigne.

Now onto the rest of the show. Where does MTV get these wacky ideas for people that should present awards together? One of our favorites of the night was Lisa Marie Presley and Avril Lavigne, they might as well pair up *NSync and Korn. We believe the best presenter of the whole show was Christina "I'm straight outta Compton" Aguilera who gave the award of Best Rap Video to Eminem. Did anyone mention to her that she might have forgotten her clothing? You have to love MTV for letting people go on television wearing next to nothing. And they had a fit when Howard Stern wanted to be "Fartman." But in the realm of dressed presenters, Americas favorite twins, Mary-Kate and Ashley presented an award. It just isn't a show without the Olsen twins.

One thing that is always a big deal at the VMA’s are the performances. Some were awesome, some good, and some just plain out sucked. Shakira shook her hips to the phat drum beats, which turned into hardcore rocker girl rhythms. One of our top favorite performances that night was solo Justin Timberlake. That kid is money. He will have a career for life because he is incredibly on. As Justin gets older, his performances will become more hot. The performance that probably wins the world record for most people on stage at one time is P. Diddy, better known to many as Puff Daddy, or even better, Poppa Diddy Pop. This guy has talent, he can Hammer dance and Lip-synch at the same time! Song wise he performed "Bad Boy for Life" to "I Need A Girl Part 1" with an incredible dance number from Usher, to "I Need A Girl part 2," concluding with "Pass The Corvesariour" in which Busta Rhymes, and the hugely talented Pharrel Williams of The Neptunes (and N.E.R.D) shared the stage with Diddy, Usher, and the dancing machine boy. All we have to say is, Wade Robson (choreographer to many acts such as *N Sync and Britney Spears) better watch out for this kid! He might be stealing your job one of these days!

Ro’s favorite performance of the night was The Hives. MTV had the wild idea that a "battle of the bands" between The Hives and The Vines would be awesome. Shoot, Why not? The only thing though, that those two bands have in common is the word "The" and the letters "I-V-E-S." Being the band on the tiny stage with some television screens behind them, The Hives stole the show. Their performance was raw and energetic. No hype or fancy features, and certainly no lions and tigers… oh and snakes were a part of this show. Just the realization on how a rock performance should be.

The award that we would like to highlight is the MTV2 award. The winner of the award was Dashboard Confessional for their video "Screaming Infidelities." Other nominees were the lovely and talented Norah Jones, Musiq and The Hives. We are Dashboard fans, but to have an award go to someone who’s video is played quite frequently on the mother station MTV is redundant. MTV2 is a channel that gives an unbelievable amount of attention to "up and coming" artists and underground artists. So maybe, Dashboard Confessional should have been nominated for "Best New Artist." Speaking of that award, we have two words to say about the winner "No Comment."

The fashion for the night was quite fun. There was more originality and style to this award show than their has been in past VMA’S. We for one, believed that J-Lo looked quite nice in her ruffled black skirt and matching shirt that showed off her cleavage and her abdominal area. For J-Lo, this is considered overdressed next to John Mayer who most likely was wearing the same whiskered jeans and "83" T-shirt he wore the night before. Michelle Branch looked adorable in her dress and pant outfit. The stripes were energetic and youthful. Heck, even her speech for winning "Viewers Choice" was energetic and youthful! As for the boy bands in the house? Yes, *N Sync proved once again that they are just "regular" guys who like to shop at Goodwill, and B2K. Well, does anyone remember the group Immature? But that's what all boy bands do when they are just starting out, they have to match so people can recognize the group. The VMA’S and other MTV award shows prove that fashion can be fun and you get to wear whatever you want to these shows. As for the Grammy's? *N Sync should get their colorful Versaci tuxedoes ready.
And now, parents of popstars, Eminem and Avril take notice right here.

To the Parents of All Popstars: Please act your age, not 20 years or younger. DO NOT we repeat, DO NOT live vicariously through your kid.

To Eminem: You are not the ish. This is NOT a recording, You are NOT the ish. Just because you had more than one ‘fit, does not make you cool. Nor does dissin’ on other artists while getting an award. Hitting kids with glasses is NOT cool. Please, also, GET OVER YOURSELF!

And finally to Avril Lavigne: Please, go buy a belt. Goodwill and Wal*Mart sell them for real cheap. Also, do you need to borrow one of our hair ties?

This is Dani and Ro checking out and signing off.
