The people packed it in for this sold out show at the Promowest Pavilion on a chilly day in
Columbus, Ohio. People were anxiously wondering what Coldplay would be like in their first
time ever in this city.
Coldplay started off with a little help from the opening act, The Music, which got the
crowd ready and energized for the night. When Coldplay came out, they started out with the
banging music of "Politik" and flashing lights of the Pavilion. The music was amazing and the
crowd was singing along. While watching the band go crazy, you knew you were in for a great
night of music.
Another crowd pleaser was a more upbeat "Spies" which was on their previous album
Parachutes. After the few first songs, the lead singer Chris Martin, after much grinning,
finally said "I know I haven't said much but I just wanted to make sure that you knew we
weren't shit." He definitely had the crowd for his own that night. Coldplay then launched into
a brilliant version of "Trouble" which had close-ups of "Make Trade Fair" written on the piano
and Chris' hand to let you know that this band really cares about society and causes. Next was
the most well-known opening chords of any Coldplay song, "Yellow," and then the haunting "The
Scientist." After those songs, they thanked the crowd and headed off the stage only to come back
to play "Clocks" and "In My Place" which excited the crowd further. Soon, Chris came back to
do a solo acoustic song "Proof" which he said was about his girlfriend but he would never
admit it to anyone except to who was in the crowd that night in Columbus. Then it was over
with no one wanting the great experience to end.
Coldplay is one of the best bands around today and they only seem to be getting better.
It's great to see a band become this popular in only a few short years. I can't wait to see
what they have in store for us in the future. I suggest hitting up this concert if they come
to your area!
